aMaizin! Time Trek Begins

The Time Trek Begins

The Maze at the award-winning and nationally recognised aMaizin! Maze and AdventurePark at La Hougue Farm in St Peter has opened to the public.

This year’s design, Time Trek, is the result of a partnership between the family attraction – recently voted one of the top 20 British family attractions and the Jersey Heritage Trust. Incorporating a map of Jersey, and the Trust’s logo, the trail cut in a field of maize is based on a heritage quest through the Island’s history. The smaller maze – which is designed for younger children and disabled access – will be themed around Jersey dolmens.

The founders of the family-run attraction, Carlton and Kristina Le Feuvre, say they are looking forward to the summer season and working with the Heritage Trust.

Mrs Le Feuvre said: "It has been a pleasure working with Jersey Heritage. Their flexible yet professional approach has meant that we have been able to obtain full benefit for each organisation with a number of marketing initiatives. Customer comments have been very positive and we are often asked for our own personal recommendations for the Heritage Sites. We are already seeing a very high number of visitors from Guernsey who traditionally come to us for the day and we have encouraged them to visit a site such as Elizabeth Castle or the MaritimeMuseum on their way back to the harbour, with positive results. Jersey Heritage is vital to the future of the Tourism Industry and I am delighted to be able to support it."

The two attraction providers are actively promoting each other’s sites and offering discounts or added value to encourage Island families and visitors to visit aMaizin! and Mont Orgueil and Elizabeth Castles, the JerseyMuseum, La Hougue Bie, Hamptonne and the Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry Gallery. In conjunction with the Merton Aquadome and GuernseyMuseums and Galleries – and supported by Jersey Tourism – aMaizin! and the Heritage Trust are undertaking a mail drop to households in Guernsey, Alderney and Sark. Living History characters who perform at Heritage Trust sites will also be appearing throughout the summer at the St Peter attraction.

The Head of Business Development at the Jersey Heritage trust, Paula Thelwell, said the partnership was already proving beneficial.

’Visitors coming to our sites via aMaizin! are claiming the ten per cent discounts and Kris and Carlton are handing out free ice creams in return to visitors we are recommending to visit aMaizin! Maze and AdventurePark. We regard the partnership as the perfect opportunity, not just to attract families to our sites but for Jersey attractions to work together with those in Guernsey and Alderney to promote not just Jersey but the Channel Islands as destinations for islanders and visitors from the UK and Europe.’

The Maze has been designed by Adrian Fisher Mazes who have created more than 500 mazes in 27 countries since they created the world’s first cornfield maze in 1991.

This is not the first time that Jersey’s Amaizin! Maze has followed a heritage theme. In 2004 it was themed to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Jersey’s allegiance to the Crown and two years ago it resembled a classic image of Neptune to reflect the 200th anniversary of the great naval battle of Trafalgar.

Since the aMaizin Maze opened in 2001 it has become a leading family attraction in Jersey. In 2005 Mr and Mrs Le Feuvre’s hard work was rewarded when they won the Indigo Lighthouse Entrepreneur of the Year Enterprise award in recognition of their growth and popularity in an increasingly difficult market. With a huge growth in corporate and social events aMaizin! Maze has quickly become a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike.

As custodians of the Island’s heritage, the HeritageTrust cares for Mont Orgueil and Elizabeth Castle, the award-winning MaritimeMuseum and JerseyMuseum, La Hougue Bie and Hamptonne. These sites are open to the public on a year-round or seasonal basis. The Trust also administers the Jersey Archive and the properties in the States Forts and Towers project. The Heritage Trust was runner-up in the Jersey Ambassador category at this year’s Jersey Enterprise Awards.
